As an Executive-In-Residence at Summit Partners, Martin works alongside Summit’s Healthcare & Life Sciences team to identify new investment opportunities within growth-stage healthcare services companies.
Martin brings over 30 years’ of entrepreneurship experience to Summit across a range of industries and is a founder of eight companies in the United States and Europe based on new technologies that he has identified in their infancy. He currently serves as the Executive Chairman and Founder of Prelude Fertility, a provider of comprehensive fertility care services. Martin co-founded Prelude in September 2016 and it is now the largest provider of such services in the United States.
Martin’s career began in the late 1980s with the founding of Medicorp Sciences, a business focused on the application of monoclonal antibodies to HIV / AIDS testing. A few years later, Martin built Viatel, a pan-European fiber optic network, which was followed by the founding of Jazztel, a similarly successful fiber optic network geared toward the Spanish market which was sold to Orange in 2014.
Martin also helped found Ya.com (the second largest Spanish-language internet portal which was sold to Deutsche Telekom), Einsteinet (one of the first European cloud computing businesses), Eolia (one of Spain’s largest renewable energy companies), and Fon (the world’s largest WiFi network with over 20 million hotspots across the globe).
Martin holds a BA from New York University and an MA in international affairs and an MA in business administration from Columbia University. He serves on numerous corporate boards and is the Chairman of the Varsavsky Foundation. Martin has also served as Visiting Professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, NYU’s Stern School of Business, and the IE Business School in Madrid instructing students in entrepreneurship.
