Bill McHalePortfolio Advisor
As a Portfolio Advisor for Summit Partners, Bill works closely with Summit and our portfolio management teams to strategize and implement approaches to accelerate growth. Bill has been leading software companies since 1990 and today he focuses primarily on board-level roles.
Bill has been involved with several Summit portfolio companies since 1997. As CEO of Summit portfolio company DSET Corporation, a provider of telecommunications software, Bill led the company through a successful IPO on NASDAQ in 1998. In 2007, Bill joined the Board of Directors of London-based Actix, a Summit-backed provider of mobile optimization software. He was appointed CEO of Actix in January 2010 and led the company through its strategic sale to Amdocs in 2013.
Today, Bill is the Chairman of the Board of Masternaut, a Summit portfolio company that provides SaaS-based telematics and Mobile Resource Management solutions. He began working with UK-based Masternaut in late 2014 and served as the company’s interim-CEO in early 2015.
In addition to serving on the advisory boards of two early stage companies, Bill also dedicates substantial time to various philanthropic endeavors. He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. John Paul II Catholic Academy, an inner-city school in Boston educating over 1,200 children, pre-K through 8th grade. Finally, he is a member of the Board for the Continuum Veterans Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations focused on helping veterans find jobs.
Bill holds a BS/BA from the Villanova School of Business. In addition, he served as an officer in the United States Navy and is a Vietnam veteran.
Bill McHale currently serves as a Portfolio Advisor and Chairman of the Masternaut Group Holdings Limited (“Masternaut”) Board of Directors. Mr. McHale is not an employee of Summit Partners, but has previously served as a CEO to a Summit portfolio company and historically has been available as an independent consultant to Summit companies. Mr. McHale does not receive fees or compensation directly from Summit Partners.
