Growth Equity Investor Summit Partners Announces Promotions
BOSTON, MA and PALO ALTO, CA – Summit Partners, a growth equity firm that invests in rapidly growing companies, today announced four promotions. Mark deLaar and Alex Whittemore were promoted to Managing Director, and Jason Glass and Len Ferrington were promoted to Principal.

Mark deLaar has been promoted to Managing Director. He joined Summit Partners’ Boston office as a Vice President in 2003, and has served as Principal since 2007. His board directorships and investments include Anesthetix (acquired by TeamHealth), Autobase (acquired by Dominion Enterprises) AvePoint, Fermentas International (acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific), IMMCO Diagnostics, MDVIP (acquired by Procter & Gamble), and OB Hospitalist Group. Prior to Summit, Mr. deLaar worked for DB Alex Brown, Banc of America Securities and Public Financial Management, and served in the United States Army. He holds a BS from the United States Military Academy and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Alex Whittemore has been promoted to Managing Director. He joined Summit Partners’ Boston office as Director of Capital Markets in 2007. He is responsible for leading the firm’s capital markets activities, both for existing portfolio companies and for new acquisitions, and for helping the firm manage its commercial and investment banking relationships. Prior to Summit, Mr. Whittemore worked for Morgan Stanley, where he founded the Boston office of the Financial Sponsors Group. He was also previously employed by Chase Manhattan Corporation and Chemical Banking Corporation. Mr. Whittemore holds a BA, cum laude, from Carleton College and an MBA from Darden School at the University of Virginia.
Len Ferrington has been promoted to Principal. He joined Summit Partners’ Palo Alto office as an Associate in 2006, and has served as Vice President since 2009. His board directorships and investments include Heald College (acquired by Corinthian Colleges) and TUI Learning. Prior to Summit, Mr. Ferrington worked for Celerity Partners and Baxter Healthcare International. He holds a BS from the University of Southern California.
Jason Glass has been promoted to Principal. He joined Summit Partners’ Boston office as a Vice President in 2006. His board directorships and investments include Casa Systems, Focus Financial Partners, Nomacorc and PeopleAdmin. Prior to Summit, Mr. Glass worked for General Catalyst Partners, America Online and Deutsche Banc Alex Brown. He holds a BBA, summa cum laude, from James Madison University and an MBA, with Distinction, from Harvard Business School. In addition, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is a member of the James Madison University College of Business Executive Advisory Council.
